PROF.
PAUL CAPETZ’S ORDINATION RESTORED
United Theological Seminary is pleased to
let you know that the request of Paul Capetz for restoration
of his ordination in the Presbyterian Church (USA) as minister
of word and sacrament, while maintaining his principled objection
to a portion of the denomination’s
ordination standards that imposes a vow of celibacy on GLBT
persons, was overwhelmingly approved at a meeting of the Twin
Cities Area Presbytery on January 26, 2008. This was no ordinary
decision, and Paul showed courage and determination in putting
himself on the line for the sake of Christian principle and
integrity, and dignity and strength in defending his position
in the face of opposition. In challenging the ordination standards,
Paul has done a great service for the church and has furthered
the principle of equal rights for all humans that United Seminary
and many others have long proclaimed and committed themselves
to live out. To read more about the process and the vote, please
