Admission
Criteria for Each Degree
The
following are the criteria for the Master
of Divinity degree, Master
of Arts degree, Master
of Arts in Religious Leadership degree, and non-degree
status:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited
institution.
- A grade point average of at least 2.75
on a 4.0 scale.
- Strong analytical and reflective thinking
and writing skills.
- Vocational and academic goals that are
compatible with the vision and mission of United.
- Mature adults with significant life and
vocational experience who have earned at least half of
the credits toward a bachelor’s degree may be considered
for the M.Div., M.A.R.L., or Diploma in Indian Ministries
programs, particularly if strong exposure to the liberal
arts and social sciences can be demonstrated.
The
following are the criteria for the Diploma
in Advanced Theological Studies:
- Spoken
and written English language proficiency.
- Previous
study of theology in a theological school approved by the student’s
denomination.
- Recommendation
by the student’s denomination.
- Evidence
of sufficient personal and social stability to profit from
studies at United.
- Willingness
to engage in the life of the seminary and, where appropriate,
participate in local church life.
The following are
the criteria for the Certificate
in Theological
and Religious Studies
and the Certificate
in Leadership toward Racial Justice:
- Bachelor’s degree
or equivalent life experience.
- Strong analytical and
reflective thinking and writing skills.
The
following are the criteria for the Doctor
of Ministry:
- The applicant is a graduate
of a regionally accredited undergraduate institution with a B.A.
or B.S. degree.
- The applicant has received
an ATS-accredited M.Div. degree or equivalent.
- The grade point average
for the applicant’s M.Div. degree is at least 3.0 on a 4.0
scale (applicants who have at least a 2.50 GPA may be considered
for admission to Module 1 alone).
- The applicant has at
least three years of experience in ministry since the completion
of his or her Master’s degree.
There are no limits to admission based on denominational
preference, age, race, ethnic or national origin, gender, sexual
orientation, or physical abilities or conditions.
