United Church of Christ Students

United Church of ChristUnited was the first major institution to be created by the newly formed United Church of Christ in 1960. As the first child of the merger, UTS is committed to honoring the traditions of our forebears while being faithful to the vision of the United Church of Christ. As a seminary of the United Church of Christ, UCC students at UTS can expect to find:

An environment which embodies the values and style of the UCC;

Members of the UCC holding key positions in institutional leadership and teaching:

Susan K. Ebbers, Professor of Theological Bibliography, and
Director of the Library

Eleazar S. Fernandez, Professor of Constructive Theology

Carolyn Pressler, Harry C. Piper, Jr. Professor of Biblical Interpretation

Christine M. Smith, Professor of Preaching

Jann Cather Weaver, Associate Professor of Worship and the Arts;

Opportunities to relate to and participate in local, association, conference, and national settings of the UCC;

Mentoring in well-chosen field placements by UCC clergy;

Reformation and UCC history and polity courses offered by UCC faculty;

Opportunities to interact with a community of UCC students, including special UCC meetings;

Community worship led by UCC faculty, clergy from the wider community, and students;

UCC resources including the New Century Hymnal and Book of Worship;

Scholarship opportunities which can provide up to full tuition; and

     “I feel challenged and safe at the same time at UTS: challenged to explore that daunting call to ministry, and safe to be myself as I explore.

     “Leaf through the course catalog and it is clear that UTS sees social justice as absolutely fundamental to faith and ministry.”
