Ecumenical Commitment

As it has for more than four decades, United enables people with diverse backgrounds to explore common ground while celebrating their own heritages and personal experiences. Chartered by the United Church of Christ to be an ecumenical seminary, United draws students from more than 20 denominations as well as other religious communities.

The seminary’s faculty and student body include people from, among others, the United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Episcopal Church, Unitarian Universalist Association, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Roman Catholic Church, Baptist Church, Congregational Church, Disciples of Christ, and from Jewish, Buddhist, and Muslim traditions.

As an ecumenical seminary of the United Church of Christ, faculty and staff work closely with partner denominations to insure denominational requirements and appropriate nurturing of denominational traditions are present.

United’s partner denominations are:

United Methodist Church

Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

Episcopal Church

Unitarian Universalist Association

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
