“I find that, with the help of United, I am on the forefront of the most current issues facing the world today, including, but not only: the role of women in the Church, anti-racism efforts, real action concerning Third World issues, inter-religious dialogue, and accommodation for various lifestyle choices.”

– Jim Shoulak, M.Div.
Episcopal Students
United has a longstanding relationship with the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota to provide a supportive environment for Episcopal students preparing for lay and ordained ministries in the church. Episcopal graduates serve the church in a wide range of ministries throughout the country. Students will find a curriculum that satisfies the requirements of the denomination and offers these resources:

  • One member of the resident faculty and one member of the staff are Episcopalian:
    • Tom Lockhart, vice president for finance and administration
    • Marilyn Salmon, professor of New Testament theology, is an Episcopal priest and serves as academic advisor for Episcopal students. In this role, she helps coordinate diocesan requirements with degree requirements. M. Salmon’s Web page;
  • Master of Divinity degree students typically complete the equivalent of two years of study at United and one year at an Episcopal seminary;
  • The Book of Common Prayer is a worship resource used by the seminary;
  • Ecumenical worship at United means that Episcopal students, faculty, staff, and clergy have the opportunity to lead worship in their own tradition as well as experience worship in a variety of styles and traditions; and
  • All students at United have access to the seminary’s generous program of financial aid.

I would like an alum or current Episcopal student to contact me.
